“Pedal to the Metal” mentality during the lockdown

California motorists are putting the proverbial “pedal to the metal” since the Coronvirus lockdown has brought the State’s economy to a screaking halt.  California Highway Patrol indicates that there has been an 87% increase in tickets for speeders exceeding the 100 mph during the first month of the State’s pandemic lockdown compared to the same period last year. This apparent “need for speed” is manifesting itself even though many people are staying home and not driving.

From March 19, 2020, to April 19, 2020, CHP officers, cited 2,493 motorists for triple-digit speeds. In 2019 during that same period, 1,335 citations were issued according to the agency.

The significant increase comes while the roads and highways are deserted, by California standards.

It is important to remember that when driving at these three-digit speeds, accidents can easily result in fatalities.

Stay safe!
